Rincón Waterfall, Trinidad

Rincón waterfall is another one of my favorite spots in Trinidad.  My first trip to this location was in September 2015 and I was honestly so stunned that such a tall, mesmerizing waterfall existed in Trinidad. It was only in 2015 that I started hiking and visiting a waterfall such as this, on my island was a mind-blowing experience for me ❤

My first time at the Rincón

The 250 feet tall Rincón Waterfall is located in the quiet and very friendly agricultural village of Rincón in Trinidad. It is the second tallest waterfall in Trinidad and Tobago, the tallest being the 300 feet Maracas Waterfall in St. Joseph. The turn off for this trail is about 10 mins drive from Maracas Bay way before Las Cuevas Beach.

The hike to Rincón takes approximately 1 hr to 1.5 hrs depending upon your fitness level. At the beginning it is fairly flat and you cross two shallow streams and a small farm at the side of the road, however as you continue on it becomes more challenging as you begin to go uphill.

However, when you finally arrive at the waterfall, the reason for your long hike, you can’t help but smile 😀 Although this hike is one of the more physically demanding ones, sticking with it and arriving at Rincón Waterfalls is worth it 😎

The last corner

Sidetrack: The puppy Story…….  A new hiker?

On our last visit to Rincón, we picked up a new hiker…. a puppy that one of the hikers decided to call Wanderer. This puppy belonged to one of the villagers, however, when we began our hike, he just left his house and started following us o_O When we noticed this, we became concerned and one of our hikeleaders took the puppy back to his home (we don’t think the owner was at home, also there was no kennel or gate or fence to keep him from leaving). However, as quickly as he put the puppy back, he just ran back and started following us ❤

To make a long story short, this puppy, “Wanderer” followed us all the way to Rincón and back. When we were leaving we returned the puppy to the house, but again he wanted to follow us and continue on to our cars. We eventually gave him to one of the villagers who was a neighbor of the owner 🙂

How could you not love dogs! They are truly man’s best friend

So, next time you are looking for a new adventure on Trinidad’s North Coast, I encourage you to visit Rincón. In my opinion, although it is not as tall as Maracas waterfall, it is more spectacular!  Pictures do not do it justice, when you turn that final corner for yourself, you will be amazed at the site of this stunning  waterfall ❤

PS. A little about me, I have been hiking for about 5 years and I am currently a hike-leader with HikersUnited (IG and FB).

Much Love
