Hike to Cafe Pools, Guanapo, Trinidad

Ohh finally, I got the chance to visit this beautiful backyard waterfall☺️. Back in October, 2024, my husband and I visited the beautiful Cafe Pools💧 in the Heights of Guanapo. I call it a backyard waterfall 💦 because it is another one of those waterfalls that is exactly how I would like my backyard to be…if I am being honest. I was told that the reason for the name Cafe Pools is when persons first came hiking to this location, someone sold coffee, tea and other light refreshments at the start of the trail, hence the name, Cafe Pools💧.

Cafe Pools 💧 is located in the Heights of Guanapo in the North of Trinidad. Another lovely spot that I am yet to visit in this area (I plan to later on this year, however) is Guanapo Gorges which I have heard so much about. Cafe Pools, thou, is a very straightforward hike, you can park by Marvin (last I checked, he has no telephone contact) and hike downhill to the falls. However, I know that some persons have started accessing the river lower down by the WASA station and hiking upriver to reach to the waterfall. The choice is yours ☺️🙏.

The road to Cafe Pools is off the Heights of Guanapo Road which is not in the best condition. It is initially paved but after that is is unpaved and you are driving on a gravel road. This is not somewhere that you want to be driving during a thunderstorm ⛈️

The hike to the pools itself takes about 10 mins downhill along a clear trail 🌲🌳🌿. However, the uphill will be challenging to anyone who has bad knees but the good thing is, it is a short trek. The uphill journey is a good workout and took us about 15 minutes to reach back to where we had parked our car.

What I love about Cafe Pools 💧 is how big the pool is and how beautiful and serene the area is. It is a lovely place to relax with family and friends ❤️. The pool is deep and there are places that you can jump into the water (once you can swim). When we visited the water was a deep green colour but I have heard that it can be a beautiful aqua blue colour at different times of the year 💦.

Cafe pool is somewhere I am looking forward to visiting again for sure ☺️

Key things to note:

🌟the uphill trek will be challenging for some persons, you are going down a hill and then coming back up

🌟if it rains heavily, this river floods and it could become dangerous, so pay attention to the weather in the area

🌟it is best to visit with a hiking group. Groups such as Hikers United are equipped with life jackets, hike leaders who know first aid, safety equipment, first aid kits. Also in generla it is safer to hike with a group than by yourself.
