Book Review: Little Fires Everywhere ๐Ÿ”ฅ by Celeste Ng

Today, I saw a post on the @readerslovebook IG page which said ” My favorite types of villains are the ones that you can understand. Not agree with, not like, but understand. ” That was how I felt about the main characters Mia, Izzy and Elena for example in this book, to me they were all misunderstood villains. In many of the situations encountered in this book, there was no real right and wrong, no black and white, it was just a whole lot of grey areas. Little Fires Everywhere ๐Ÿ”ฅ is a book that made me stop and question myself, what would I have done if it were me, what choice would I have made in this given situationโ“โ“ This book was a slow-burning, gripping story, that swallows you hole. It is a story where shit hits the fan in more ways than one and by the end of it all, not a single person is left unaffectedโ—๏ธโ—๏ธ Rating: 5/5.

Little Fires Everywhere ๐Ÿ”ฅ tells the story Mia, an artist and her beautiful and smart daughter Pearl when they move into Shaker Heights in Cleveland and begin renting ๐Ÿ˜ from Mr. and Mrs. Richardson. The Richardson’s are a wealthy family of five and pretty soon, the relationship between Pearl, Mia and the Richardson family begins to deepen as their lives become more and more intertwined. Pearl begins to go to high school ๐Ÿซ with the Richardson kids and Mia begins to work for the family as a maid to assist in paying the bills. As time passes by, Mrs. Richardson, a journalist, begins to become suspicious of Mia and decides to investigate her new tenant and this is the spark that sets the first fire.

โ€œMost of the time, everyone deserves more than one chance. We all do things we regret now and then. You just have to carry them with you.โ€

This book was compelling because it showed how decisions you make every single day, those small, seemingly unimportant decisions can have major consequences ๐Ÿ˜ฐ. These are the little fires that we set in our lives and one day they can spread and affect not only us but everyone around us. If you are looking for a book that will have you on the edge of your seat, trying to figure out what will happen next, looking forward to reading the next chapter, then this book is for you ๐Ÿ˜„ . It isn’t a book that will make you laugh, instead it will make you think ๐Ÿ’ญ and reflect on your own life, the little decisions and choices you make, are you setting little fires everywhere? PS. This book was made into a Hulu limited series in 2020. I can’t wait to check it out.

โ€œOne had followed the rules, and one had not. But the problem with rules… was that they implied a right way and a wrong way to do things. When, in fact, most of the time they were simply ways, none of them quite wrong or quite right, and nothing to tell you for sure what side of the line you stood on.โ€
