Honestly, I believe that a day at the beach is just good for the mind, body and soul. There is something healing about being at the beach, whether you bathe in the water or you just sit and relax on the sand or just lie back and listen to the sound of the waves and feel the breeze on your face 🏖
I am a Trinbagonian and I am fortunate to have grown up on the beautiful twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Heading to the beach is a way of life for us, whether it be a quiet beach that you have to hike to or one of our popular beaches on the North Coast like Maracas Bay or Las Cuevas, or one of the mile long beaches on our east coast such as Mayaro or any beach in Tobago. Trinbagonians love to go to the beach! 🏖 🏝🇹🇹
Today I decided to do a post about some of my favorite beaches in Trinidad and Tobago. 🏄🏽♀️ Have you visited any of these before? Maybe you should add it to your list of places to visit 🙂 I have done detailed blog posts on most of these locations in the past so feel free to check those posts 🏊🏽♀️ Now lets jump straight into the list:
1)Forest Point Beach or La Forêt Beach – A perfect Road Trip
This beautiful beach is located in the quiet fishing village of Toco on the North East Coast of Trinidad (about 2 hours drive from Port of Spain). It is located very close to the Toco light house and is an easy hike on a mostly flat clear trail 🌴 It will take you 35 mins or less to reach to the beach at a casual walking pace. Also, there is a bonus beach on the other side of the tombolo. I love this beach because I think the long drive makes it a fun road trip to do with family and friends and the beach is usually calm and a pleasure to bathe in 🚗 🚕 🚙 🚌
2) Cyril Bay – short challenging hike, calm beach.
The lovely Cyril Bay is located off the North Coast of Trinidad way before Maracas beach. It is a moderately challenging hike and usually takes about 40 mins to reach down to the beach from the start of the trail and about 1 hr back on your return journey. I love this hike because it is such a great workout and the beach is an absolutely perfect spot to relax, you will enjoy the water 🏔 🧗🏽♀️ 💦
3. Paria Bay – a must visit spot.
Paria Bay and Waterfall is one of the most well known locations in Trinidad and Tobago. It is spoken of with reverence by first time hikers and I am often asked “When do you think I will be able to hike to Paria? How long does it take to reach to Paria Bay?” ☀️ 🌊
In terms of hiking time, Paria Bay takes 1.5 hrs to 2.5 hrs (it really depends upon your fitness level) 🏋🏼♀️ 🏋🏽♀️ It is not only a beautiful location, with the Paria Arch being the focal point of the beach, but also the beautiful trail and waterfall are an added bonus. If you don’t want to hike to this beach, you do have the option of taking a pirogue from the Blanchisseuse Fishing Depot (trust me the water isn’t as calm as it looks and the journey by boat is not for the faint of heart!) 🛶 ⛵️ 🚤 PS. This is also a popular spot for camp outs especially during the Easter weekend. ⛺️
4. Macqueripe Bay – perfect spot for a stunning sunset.
This small beautiful beach is located on the North-western Coast of Trinidad. The beach is a short walk down from the parking lot and on weekends it is an extremely popular liming spot for locals. Why does this beach make my list? Because of the sunsets. It really is one of my favorite spots to see the sun go down……..it is just a mesmerizing view 🌅 🌞
Special Mentions:
Mayaro Beach:
This is the beach where my mom and her siblings spent many many holidays frolicking in the sand and swimming. I love this beach I find it is a quiet very chill spot to relax and read a book. The beach goes on for miles so you can always find a quiet spot to settle down. I actually have never walked from end to end as yet but one day I will. I heard it is about nine miles long…… 💧 💦

Paragrant Bay:
This is another one of my favorite hikes. It is one of the more difficult hikes that we do with my crew, the Hikers United Hiking Club. It can take you about 45 mins to head down to the beach and about 1.5 hrs to return to the top. However, it is a much steeper incline than Cyril Bay. I love it thou! 🌄

Girl, I just reminiscing on some good times myself lol. But yes, we have quite a few beach hikes but they are mostly difficult hikes except Forest Point. Soon soon….we will be able to get back to hiking. Stay safe 🙂 Nice to hear from you 🙂

I agree, you are extremely lucky to have grown up there. And same sentiments exactly, there’s something therapeutic, (almost) spiritual about beaches. Whatever you want to call it, just a sense of peace and calm and beauty. Ultimately that was a huge factor in why I came back to Helsinki. I missed the open space of the sea.

Oh my, how stunning! My family’s Jamaican and I’ve visited once, but Trinidad looks absolutely gorgeous! There’s not much I wouldn’t do for a beach day atm tbh 🙂 xx

Mayaro is my beach. Yes, and in addition to the beach the sunrise can be beautiful.

Now that you and Rochelle have made me TOTALLY HOME SICK…watching the awesome photos of the beaches and food in sweet TnT, I want to come HOME RIGHT NOW!! Great read….I never knew that all this wonderful-ness is there to explore in my home country. One fine day, I’ll just run away and take the time to explore it all.

Beautiful! I did two hikes in Trinidad, one to Rincon Waterfall (I think that’s the name – heading to Maracas Bay) and to Macqueripe Bay, enjoyed both. Yes, the rock sure does look like a turtle.

Thank you. Yes, Rincon is actually one of my favorite hikes in Trinidad because the waterfall is so tall ….. and it is a really good workout. But, next time you are in trini there are a plethora of other beautiful spots to visit 🙂

I love Trinidad and Tobago. My best friend (sadly lost her life last March) and her family live in Trinidad and I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful Trinidad and Tobago. I went to many beaches in Trinidad and spent the best days of my life in Tobago. And to see the Trinidad Carnival was the bonus.
