For our first hike in 2025, the Hikers United crew ventured north east to the village of Matura, Trinidad. This village is well known for leather back turtles 🐢 who nest on Matura Beach during the period March – August every year (I will do a post about this later in the year). Mermaid Pools 🧜♀️ has and will always be one of my favorite hikes in Trinidad and I enjoy hiking to this spot several times a year, meh cyah tyad of it at all!❤️

One of my favorite parts of this hike is the absolute beauty of the trail 🌿💦. I love to look up at the canopy and all the various shades of green around us. At one point you are passing underneath a natural archway formed by bamboo, at another point, you are walking through the beautiful forest filled with Mora excelsa Trees🌳 and many different types of palm trees🌴. If the sun is hot, it provides shade, if the rain is falling, it also provides shade.

After about 30 minutes of walking, depending upon your your fitness level and speed you arrive at the first set of pools💦. You can continue along the trail (we turn by the fallen log to head to the first pools) and go down to the lower pools or you can navigate through the river to the lower pools from the first pool. However, we decided to relax at the first pool as there is more than enough room for everyone to spread out and enjoy themselves❤️, there is also a spot for you to swing and dive into the water using a rope attached to a tree. Good times!☺️
Much Love,
