Toco’s hidden gem :) Forest Point Beach

Have you heard of La Forêt Beach / Forest Point Beach? Last week Saturday, my friends and I visited this lovely hidden gem nestled in the quiet village of Toco on the island of Trinidad.  This was my first time heading to this beach and although I have been to Toco on numerous occasions, I had never even heard of Forest Point Beach until very recently.

Although we were only able to spend about 30 mins by the beach because it was beginning to get dark, I was presently surprised by how beautiful this beach was. The water was calm and inviting and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves even though it was for a short period of time. I kept thinking to myself “Wow, I have been to Toco so many times before and I have never been here! I am happy I found this beach!”.

Forest Point beach is located very close to the Toco Lighthouse. The lighthouse is on Galera road in Toco and the you take the last right to head before the lighthouse to reach the start of the trail. The hike is not difficult, the terrain is flat and it only takes about 35 mins to reach to the beach.

When you arrive at the end of the trail, you are standing headland at the coast with beaches on both sides and a tombolo directly in front of you. The tombolo is a perfect first stop and a great place to sit down, relax, enjoy the 360 degree views from the top and the feel the refreshing sea breeze on your body.

To your left, is a sheltered beach is perfect for bathing (even for non-swimmers) and relaxing and for taking some beautiful pictures (Pic 2 and Pic 3). This beach is protected from the rough waves that sometimes batter our coastlines by some rocks a few meters off the coast. These rocks cause the waves to break before they reach the shore, ensuring calm waters for bathing. This is where we chose to have a quick dip.

To the right is another beach, which although less protected, is also quite placid and ideal for bathing. We were there at high tide so the water was up to the shoreline.

Unfortunately for us, we couldn’t stay too long and enjoy the beach and by 5 30 we were on our way back to the cars. Although it was short, it was sweet and I would highly recommend a road trip to this beach for sure and while you are it, take a quick stop at the Keshorn Walcott Lighthouse.

PS. A little about me, I have been hiking for about 5 years and I am currently a hike leader with HikersUnited (IG and FB).

Much Love
